Question from a Paddler
2007-07-18
Question from a paddler sent to our site:
“Where does the Prescription fit into your line up of whitewater kayaks? We are interested in buying two of them for our family. We are class III to mild class IV paddlers. Can you tell me what the design does?”
The Rx (aka Prescription) has been one of our best sellers, and for good reason. With all the interest in kayaking due to freestyle, paddlers are looking for a boat that will allow them to learn more modern moves but at the same time be a great down river performer. Meaning you can surf, spin, cartwheel and play till you’re dizzy but then turn the Rx down stream and not feel like you are going to be tipping over on every eddy line or cross current.
The Rx does this in two ways. First off it has a very forgiving edge that will allow you to carve on a wave but not so aggressive that it grabs all the time. The second way is the stern volume. If you look at the side view of the Rx you will notice it has a little extra in the back. This keeps gives more floatation thus decreasing the likelihood that you will be in a stern squirt (wheelie) as you go down stream. It does however have a slicy bow and the sterns shape allows for it to cut through water easily when cart wheeling. Basically it is a boat that will allow you to learn the basics of play boating and all the while is a more stable platform for river running.
And to top it off the boat is so comfortable!!! Typical of all Dagger kayaks. Comfort is key and performance is second to none. Plus all the outfitting (seat, thigh hooks, foot brace, hip pads and backband) all adjust in minutes so you can adjust it to the different needs of your family.
Hope this helps and as always thank you for paddling our boats. We appreciate all our paddlers and look forward to seeing you out on the river.
Sincerely,
Hobie
