About Me: "I am currently working as the Development Program Associate at the Sierra Nevada Alliance, an environmental non-profit which works to protect and restore the natural environment of the Sierra Nevada. Growing up on a ranch in Montana, I developed my love for nature and passion for whitewater kayaking at a very young age. In 2005, I was the first female graduate from World Class Kayak Academy and one year later I came to California in quest of all the whitewater treasures nestled throughout the Sierra. Blown away by the sheer beauty of this magical place, I decided to stay. As a professional whitewater kayaker, I wanted more out of expeditions than pure adventure and adrenaline, I wanted an adventure with a purpose, which led to the making of the award-winning documentary film, "The Last Descent." Inspired by the tragic story of the loss of Hetch- Hetchy in Yosemite National Park, my two best friends and I set out on a year-long endeavor to document and kayak some of the world’s most precious rivers before they are lost to large scale hydropower projects. On our journey we traveled to Nepal, India, and Uganda to highlight the effects of large scale hydro- projects on local communities and natural resources. After attending college in Sacramento, I am thrilled to be back in the Sierra working to help protect the land I loves most. I still manage to paddle the wild rivers of California (especially in Spring!)."

If you are in serious trouble and need medical assistance, a rescue team will be able to find you with the push of a button (I haven't had to use the rescue button yet, but I like knowing it is there)."
