Andy Maser

State/Hometown: Portland, Oregon
Favorite place to paddle/favorite drop: Little White Salmon River, WA--Stovepipe Rapid
About Me: "I learned to kayak with my dad in Harpers Ferry, WV one summer day when I was 9 years old. I fell in love that day, and haven’t looked back since. After college, I got together with a few good friends to rethink kayaking media. What resulted was a 2-month expedition deep into the jungle of Papua New Guinea, and the beginning of our Rivers In Demand project—a series of kayak expeditions through threatened ecosystems. Through these, and other environmental/adventure films we produce, we bring attention to global environmental issues. My goal is to entertain, educate, and inspire viewers to protect our most valuable places. Oh yeah, and hopefully compel folks to get outside and have as much fun kayaking as I do!"

Creekboat: Nomad 8.5
Favorite Move: The Boof Stomp
Favorite Music: Reggae/Hip Hop
Must-Have Accessory: Break-down paddle

Professional Accomplishments: National Geographic Young Explorers Grant recipient, second camera for 3 National Geographic Channel shows, first descents in 10 countries, interviewed Tom Brokaw once
Why Andy loves kayaking: "Since I was young, kayaking has been my direct connection to the natural world. In a time when we seem to put every effort into isolating ourselves from the world around us, kayaking is an incredible way to immerse yourself in it. It’s also incredibly fun! Multi-day expeditions on remote rivers are unquestionably some of my favorite memories."
